Rehabilitation is a progressive, dynamic, goal-oriented, and often
time-limited process that enables the individual with an impairment to
identify and reach his/her optimal mental, physical, cognitive and/or social
function.
The Feldenkrais Method® is an educational system that develops
a functional awareness of self in the environment. This approach to working
with people expands their repertoire of movements, enhances awareness
and improves function. It attempts to facilitate the learning
that is necessary to organize the whole self and recover excluded and
unconsidered movement patterns or actions. The method is based on the
principles of physics, biomechanics and an empirical understanding of
learning and human development.
Treatment may include:
Awareness Through Movement® sessions are group lessons that
last approximately one hour and are generally organized around a particular
function. The lessons attempt to make the client aware of their habitual
neuromuscular patterns and rigidities, and explore options for new ways
of moving, increasing efficiency and sensitivity. The clients
always move within their zone of comfort, examining the interaction
between joint muscle and posture.
Functional Integration® is a hands-on individual session.
The Feldenkrais® practitioner instructs the client as to how he/she can
organize his/her body through guided movement patterns. The lesson is
custom tailored to the unique configuration of that individual at that
moment.
This is a self-pay service that is covered by some insurance plans.
