Surgery
Dr. Eric Poulin, Head, Department of Surgery, welcomes you. The Department of Surgery includes 141 physicians,
six scientific researchers and one scholar, 49% of whom are bilingual. The
90 active / associate staff surgeons provide surgical care at The Ottawa
Hospital's two inpatient facilities, the General and Civic Campuses, and
at the Hospital's ambulatory care facility at the Riverside Campus through
nine hospital divisions:

- General Surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Orthopedic Surgery

For the period 2000-2004, the Department of Surgery is planning to recruit
30 new members. During this period, a total of 15 retirements are anticipated.
Clinical programs form the basis of excellence in the Department and
each Division has its area of research focus. Department-wide priority
research programs have been established in surgical epidemiology and surgical
education.
Clinical activity profile
Surgical activity for the year 2000 was 16,854 inpatient O.R. procedures (3.7% decline) and 34,265 day surgery O.R. procedures (25.3% increase)
